ACCOMMODATION IN SORRENTO

Sorrento has a wide range of hotels from large to smaller with also apartments and bed and breakfasts, etc. The city centre is relatively small and everything in Sorrento, including all the wedding venues, will be within walking distance.

Sorrento is surrounded by small towns (Meta di Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Massa Lubrense). From the map, they seem to be quite close, but in reality, the mountainous nature of the coastline that surrounds Sorrento extends the distances owing to the roads following the natural contours of the panorama. For this reason, it is not very convenient to reach neighbouring places on foot, not only because of the distance but also because of the steep terrain.

If you do chose to stay further out from Sorrento you will need to use taxi’s or hire cars to travel into Sorrento – However parking in Sorrento town can be difficult to find on the road and is expensive. There are a few multi story parking facilities if you need to leave your car for the day or a number of hours.

For a pleasant stay in Sorrento, we advise you to consider accommodation with parking (since it is very difficult to find parking in Sorrento) or give up rental cars and use the taxi service.

The coastline around Sorrento is beautiful and there are many apartments for rent privately. The Apartment option can be very cost effective in the neighbouring towns such as Vico Equense, Massa Lubrense (where we have stay on a number of occasions) and Meta di Sorrento. In this you will have to consider traveling by taxi or rental cars. Alternatively you can also refer to the “Airbnb” website where you can find various solutions closest to your needs.

About the city centre, we can suggest some hotels we know very well:

  • Hotel Antiche Mura (4-star hotel)
  • Palazzo Correale (apartments for up to 8 people)
  • Sorrento Belvedere B&B
  • Grand Hotel La Favorita (5-star hotel)
  • Casa Dominova Maison Deluxe (2-star hotel)
  • Imperial hotel Tramontano (4-star hotel)
  • Divina House B&B
  • Grand Hotel Capodimont – 5*
  • Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria 5*
  • Imperial hotel Tramontano 5*
  • The Grand Hotel Cucomella hotel 5*

Here’s a list of 15 things to do when in Sorrento:

    1. Piazza Tasso: An elegant and lively square, the beating heart of the city. From the railing near the flags, you can take gorgeous panoramic pictures with the sea as a backdrop.

    2. Villa Comunale: Small, cozy, with a breathtaking sea view, and very close to the Chiostro di San Francesco. Inside, there is a lift for direct access to Marina Piccola.

    3. Chiostro di S. Francesco (where the wedding will be!): A structure with 14th-century architecture, it is one of the city’s oldest and most popular destinations.

    4. Vallone dei Mulini: It is a valley that was formed by a volcanic eruption some 35,000 years ago. By the end of the 19th century, there were an old mill, a sawmill, and a public washhouse. The valley is inaccessible today, but it is possible to admire it from the Fuorimura lookout.

    5. Sedil Dominova: The only evidence of a noble seat in Campania, dating back to the 14th century. The fresco at the entrance and the majolica dome are beautiful.

    6. Duomo di Sorrento: The Cathedral in the heart of the city is in Baroque style. Its current appearance is due to reconstruction in the 18th century by Archbishops Petra and Anastasius.

    7. Museo Correale: One of the most attractive museums in the region. A unique exhibition of the glorious artistic and archaeological heritage of the Correale family.

    8. Marina Grande:  Colorful, charming, and cozy fishing village, fimed in a number of films. It is full of trattorias, restaurants. and bathing beaches. Eating in one of the fish restaurants at sunset is a unique and fascinating experience.

    9. Marina Piccola: Sorrento’s main port, from where ferries and hydrofoils depart and arrive. The volcanic sand beaches are the closest to Piazza Tasso.

    10. Basilica S. Antonino: In Romanesque and Baroque styles. Inside, in addition to the monumental altar, there is an impressive crypt and sacristy and a silver statue of the saint.

    11. Corso Italia: Main street and beating heart of the city, with stately palaces, chic shops, and fashionable clubs. An ideal place for shopping and a stroll in the center of Sorrento.

    12. Vicoletti: The soul of Sorrento. Warmth, conviviality, the scent of lemons, typical shops, and local crafts come together in the old, narrow Sorrentine streets. This is the right place to eat real lemon granita.

    13. Bagni Regina Giovanna: An enchanting natural pool surrounded by high cliffs, about 3 km from Sorrento. A wonderful setting for an unforgettable bathing experience. It is preferable to reach the Baths by bus and early in the morning. Not suitable for children.

    14. Bastione di Parsano: Also known as the ancient walls, they date back to Roman times. The “Porta di Parsano”, where the walls stand, dates back to the Bourbon era.

    15. La Marinella: Just a few steps from Sorrento is this terrace with a breathtaking view. It is thrilling to look out from this corner of paradise. The beach, which is suitable for children, can be reached from the terrace using a lift.
